Ford Edge SUV Compared to The Ford Escape SUV

One name that is synonymous in the auto world across America is Ford, which has a rich heritage of popular automobiles in the country. The available SUV’s here are responsible for making the company as big as it is today. All these SUVs are brawny vehicles that can be used for a variety of private and commercial purposes. Here is a comparison between two contemporary SUV’s here- the Edge and the Escape.

Exterior Appearance:

In the looks department, the 2021 Ford Escape scores much higher than the 2021 Ford Edge, which looks sportier and prettier in comparison. This is also because the Escape received a facelift very recently, while the Edge is expected to get the same in two years. The front grille on the Escape appears to be more contemporary, but design can always be subjective.

The Edge is right in the center of Ford’s SUV lineup, as the Escape appears to be small, and the Explorer is a large three row crossover. Both vehicles have similar towing capacities of 3500 pounds, with the right type of equipment.

Despite the Edge being longer than the Escape, legroom on both vehicles is nearly the same. However, the Escape’s passengers benefit from a sliding rear seat. Cargo area in the Edge is more by 5 cubic feet. This vehicle is also hugely comfortable for tall passengers sitting in the middle on the second row of seats.

Engine Comparison:

Customers of both cars can choose between FWD (Front-Wheel-Drive) and AWD (All-Wheel-Drive) here. Being the smaller one, the 2021 Ford Escape comes with a less powerful 1.5 liter engine, capable of churning out 181hp of power and 190 lbs.-ft. of torque. This is the first SUV in the Ford lineup to get a hybrid engine, which is a 2.5 liter engine with 250 hp of power and 275 lbs.-ft of torque. For those who want more power and space than the Escape, the hybrid is the vehicle to choose.

Among the Edge trims, the Edge ST comes with a unique 2.7 liter EcoBoost engine that generates a whopping 335hp of power. This engine is mated to a 7-speed automatic transmission. Other than this trim, both the above vehicles get the same 8-speed automatic transmission gearboxes.

Interior Appearance:

Several soft touch surfaces are visible inside both vehicles, which are rarely seen in cars at this price point. Many new smart technologies are available in the Edge ST, which includes a 12 inch center screen with SYNC ®4A that gets optional cloud connectivity with conversational voice recognition and Connected Built-in Navigation.

Five individuals can comfortably sit in the 2021 Ford Edge. It gets good quality interior materials that appear a little dated at times. Its rear seats can be folded using power down technology. However, the Escape, though it appears more modern, is not as comfortable. Upper trims on the Escape get leather and wood.

Safety Features:

Ford’s safety program called Ford Co-Pilot 360 is available on both cars with the following technologies:

  • Blind Spot Monitor
  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert
  • Post collision braking
  • Dynamic Brake Support
  • Pre-collision warning
  • Lane Keeping Assist
  • Lane Departure Warning
  • Rearview camera
  • Automatic high beam

Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) is an option for both vehicles.
