When you’re looking for a new Ford, you might consider purchasing either the Ford Fusion or the Ford Focus. While there are some similarities between the two, they also have some differences. From the fuel economy to the price, here are a few differences between the two to help you decide which one to get.
Price
The first difference between the Ford Focus and the Ford Fusion is the price, which is important to many consumers. The Ford Focus begins at $17,860 for the base S sedan model. There are several trims available, and the price can go up to $24,175 if you want the Titanium trim. The hatchback version of the Focus starts at $20,445 for the Ford Focus SE model and goes up to $41,120 if you want the Focus RS. Those who prefer the all-electric Focus EV will pay $29,190 for the basic version and get a federal tax credit of $7,500.
The base model of the Fusion S starts at a higher price of $22,120. There are five different trims available, with the most expensive Platinum model beginning at $36,895. Each trim offers the option to have a hybrid powertrain. The plug-in hybrid, the Fusion Energi, begins at $33,305.
Interior
The Fusion is a midsize sedan that has comfortable seating for up to five people. The front seats were designed to be more comfortable for those stuck in traffic or on long drives. There is plenty of legroom and head space for taller passengers in the car. The front seats are ventilated and heated, and the driver’s seat can be adjusted in 10 different ways. There are five seats in the Focus as well, but there is less room in the back seats, making it more uncomfortable for adults.
Engine
There are two midrange EcoBoost engines available for the Fusion. If going with the all-wheel-drive Fusion Sport, it has a twin-turbocharged 325 horsepower 2.7-liter V6 engine. Five out of seven of the trims in the Focus have a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. The SE trim has an available three-cylinder engine, and also boasts improved fuel economy. The RS model has a turbocharged 350-horsepower 2.3-liter engine, while the ST model has a 252-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter engine.
Fuel Economy
The Focus SE trim will give you the best fuel economy, with 30 miles per gallon in the city and up to 40 miles per gallon when driving on the highway. The Focus Electric has 107 miles per gallon equivalent, and 115 miles can be driven without needing to charge it. The Fusion Hybrid gets 43 miles per gallon in the city and 41 miles per gallon when driving on the highway. The Fusion Energi’s all-electric range is 21 miles and has 97 miles per gallon equivalent.
